39 Poems

Objective: to collaboratively build, print, and release 39 Poems by Charles Butler.

Here is a summary of our initial thinking about how to make this happen using plan cruncher icons:

39 Poems was released in 2010.  Here are some details:

The Poet: Charles J. Butler was born in Brooklyn in 1958, and began his writing career at the age of eleven. He participated in the legendary downtown readings held by Emilie Glen in the 1970’s, read at the original Newyorican Poet’s CafĂ©, and was a part of a poet’s collective in Brooklyn called The Seventh Avenue Extension. The poetry of Charles J. Butler is powerful and intense. Su Polo filmed him at a Saturn Series Reading at Nightingale Lounge in NYC. Check it out:

No Shirt Press got off to a great start this year.  We successfully helped to translate Brooklyn-based poet Charles Butler's lifelong dedication to the art of verse into a seriously good book titled 39 Poems.

Since the release of 39 Poems in April, Charles has been able to offer his fans something tangible to take home with them after seeing one of his memorable New York City performances.  With distribution support from the independent Windsor Terrace neighborhood bookstore Babbo's Books, he has also been able to point his followers towards a local community hub of
literary excellence.
